Abstract

A new system of approximate two-dimensional equations from the three-dimensional equations of linear piezoelectricity and variational principle is developed for vibration of piezoelectric plates. Both the components of mechanical displacements and electric potential are expanded in series of Chebyshev polynomials of the plate thickness coordinate. The kinetic energy density and electric enthalpy density of the plate are expressed in terms of these series and integrated in the whole region. Then the infinite system of two-dimensional equations is obtained by employing Mindlin's procedure. The field equations, boundary conditions and constitutive equations of the first- and second-order are extracted from this infinite system of equations. The face-traction, face-charge, edge-traction and edge-charge are also defined. Finally, the mass effect of electrodes is discussed.
