Numerical simulation of two-dimensional stagnation-point flow is investigated with the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software of STAR-CD and results are compared with those obtained from the similarity solution. Study shows that velocity profiles are in good agreement between numerical simulation and similarity solution for high aspect ratio in the stagnation-point region. Numerical simulation results of nonzero vorticity region find that boundary-layer thickness is constant in the stagnation-point region where vorticity generated at a wall is prevented from diffusing far away from it by convection of the vorticity toward the wall. In the region far away from the stagnation point the boundary-layer thickness is decreasing along the wall in which balance between diffusion and convection of vorticity is no longer valid. © 2008 IEEE.
