AbstractOperation principles of both inductor-based and switched-capacitor DC-DC converters are introduced in this chapter. Different aspects of these two types of DC-DC converters are investigated and compared. In particular, benefits and design obstacles of the time-interleaving multiphase topology are reviewed and discussed. Simulation and measurement results show that the unity-gain bandwidth of a pulse-frequency modulation (PFM) control loop can be designed to be a few times higher than the switching frequency suitable for fast transient applications.
